Fisheries sector
In 2007, NAD fisheries production totaled 123 556 MT which was declined by 22% compared to the previous year, mainly due to the lower landings both from marine and aquaculture sectors. Marine capture fisheries production declined form 124964 MT in 2006 to 111 472 MT in 2007. Meanwhile aquaculture production sharply dropped from 32 265MT in 2006 to 10 717 MT last year. Below are the major species landed and produced in NAD in 2007.

Meanwhile the main species cultured in NAD in 2007 were:
Black tiger shrimp : 1 430 MT
Milkfish : 1 997 MT
Tilapia : 2 154 MT
Carps : 1 734 MT
Landings from inland capture fisheries were 1 367 MT in 2007.
The main landing sites in Aceh are Lampulo in Banda Aceh, Idi and Langsa in East Aceh and Meulaboh in the west coast. Dinas DKP identifies 4 fishing ports as the centre for development for marine fisheries namely: Lampulo, Idi, Lhokseumawe and Labuhan Haji (west coast). Meanwhile black tiger and milkfish farming are mainly located in north and east Aceh districts namely Bireun, Lhokseumawe, Idi and also Langsa. Grouper farming (fattening) is also done in those areas using wild juvenile grouper as seeds.
