Concluding workshop on Fish Marketing Information System (FMIS) for Aceh project (GCP/INS/078/SPA) was successfully organized in Banda Aceh on 22nd June 2010. Attended by around 70 representatives from all fisheries stakeholders and relevant government agencies in Aceh as well as officials from the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (MMAF) Jakarta and other provinces, the one-day workshop was to present the activities and achievements of the project, provide recommendations for the Indonesian government to continue the project’s activities and develop FMIS at a national level. In general the project has achieved three things namely: the establishment of web and SMS based fish marketing information system; direct market access for fisheries products from Aceh in the regional markets; improvement of the economic activities of small scale fish processors through product, quality and market development. It was agreed during the workshop that once the project is completed at the end of July 2010, the MMAF is ready to take over the current web and SMS based FMIS which has been in operational for almost two years. While the existing SMS system will be handed over to DKP Aceh, MMAF has also expressed its interest to adopt the system in other10 fisheries provincial offices (DKP) including East Java, Yogyakarta, Gorontalo, Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, Banten, North Sumatra, South Sulawesi and West Kalimantan. For the FMIS website (epasarikan.com) which is currently hosted by INFOFISH will be handed over to MMAF office in Jakarta and be placed under the DG of Fish Processing and Market Development (P2HP). It was proposed that the MMAF should further develop FMIS into INFOIKAN, a mini version of FISH INFONETWORK for Indonesia to serve the country’s fisheries industry.
