On 21st January, 2009 a one-day training for new enumerators from neighboring North and West Sumatra provinces was successfully organized by the FMIS project in Aceh. Attended by 6 trainees from Nias Island (4 people) and Sibolga (1) of North Sumetara, Padang of West Sumatera (1), 4 enumerators from Aceh and representatives from the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (DKP) Jakarta and North Sumatra, the training was part of the on going cooperation between the fish marketing project in Aceh and similar project in Nias funded by the Spanish Government to expand the existing FMIS to cover both areas.

The new 6 enumerators were trained on how to collect and submit market (price) information into the existing FMIS using formatted SMS application. With this training, six (6) new locations in Nias, Sibolga and Padang will be added into the FMIS which will regularly report and upload fish prices of major species produced in the area in the system.

INFOFISH has agreed to develop and expand the system to cover Nias. The prices information from Nias are expected to be able to be viewed on-line (www.epasarikan.com) from next month. Dissemination via SMS covering stakeholders in Nias and North Sumatra will also be carried out once the new system is in place.
